It does involve disabling SIP, though admittedly just for kext extensions, which is a little safer. There is a workaround, but it may not work with every adapter. Note that macOS’s HID implementation overrides Dolphin’s direct communication with the device, so it doesn’t support having multiple controllers plugged in. Dolphin can communicate with it directly, though, and will support the Wii U mode, which can fix some bugs with the additional ports.

This adapter has a switch so you can use it on PC as well as console, which will turn it into an HID device rather than a proprietary console only one. You can get an official one, but the Mayflash adapter seems to work fine for half the price. Support may vary though depending on the adapter you get.

However, the current release doesn’t work either, so you’ll have to build the latest commit from source in Xcode, update a bunch of build targets, fix a few errors, sign it with an Apple developer account, and then after all that you have to boot into Recovery Mode and disable system integrity protection to install it. Only then can you properly connect the controller. MacOS Sierra broke support for the only driver, Wjoy, but it was updated on a new fork. System-wide use is technically supported, but we heavily recommend finding a new controller. Mac is supported in the same way-only in Dolphin. Dolphin, the Wii emulator, supports using them as inputs, but we didn’t have any on hand to test system-wide use. Windows will connect the controller by default, but it may not be usable as a controller in all apps.

Nintendo’s Switch Pro controller works automatically after you connect it via Bluetooth on Windows and macOS, but you’ll have to set it up in Steam to use in games. Also, if you’re crazy, you can forego the adapter altogether and splice together a couple of cables, although we don’t recommend this. MacOS has an older driver, but it may not work on newer versions of macOS. You’ll need an adapter and some custom drivers, but it doesn’t seem entirely easy. Due to problems with kernel extensions (kexts,) wireless support causes kernel panics, and is disabled in this driver. After all, you’ll still be able to “see” sound through a circular interface element as you could if you were playing with the touch interface.Mac needs a custom driver. That’s disabled when playing with an MFi controller, likely just as much to keep the iPhone from vibrating off the stand or table as to give touch players a little boost. For another, they can still “feel” sounds around them through slight vibrations from the iPhone, which trigger when someone nearby is firing weapons or hacking at trees. For one, they still have the option to automatically fire at other players, while controller players will have to do their shooting manually. Touch players retain at least two advantages. I’m still astounded by the amount of customization allowed here. Regardless of how you prefer to play with a controller, you can do it on an iPhone. Fortnite for iPhone lets you choose from five different control configurations ranging from “Old School” to “Quick Builder,” or you can go maverick and set your own keybinds for the controller. Impressively, Epic gave MFi players a massive range of customization. Now, though, it’s as easy to build walls or ramps as it is on the Xbox on Switch. I usually just ignored it, as it was too much of a hassle. Before today, though, building was always my least favorite aspect of Fortnite for iPhone. That’s a personal preference, as I know some players are lightning-fast with the touch controls. A controller makes it much easier to run around and shoot in Fortnite, as you might imagine, but more importantly, I find it better for Fortnite’s all-important construction elements than the touch controls. Being in controlĮven if you have to deal with that hassle, it’s worth it. Once I did that, the Stratus worked as well as a DualShock controller should work for the PS4.
